PulteGroup Home Builder | Employment Violation Lawsuits | Employees Misclassified Independent Contractors, Minimum Wage Violations, Unpaid Overtime, Unemployment Workers’ Compensation Insurance | Investigations into: PulteGoup, Lennar Corp., D.R. Horton and/or KB Home
Gilman Law LLP is investigating potential employment violation claims against PulteGroup, a major U.S. home builder, for possible violations of various state and federal labor laws. If you were an “employee” or “independent contractor” for PulteGroup, we would like to hear from you regarding minimum wage violations, denial of overtime pay and other possible violations of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Federal Investigation of PulteGroup Wage Practices
PulteGroup is among several large home builders targeted by a U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) investigation into possible wage violations. In August, the Labor Department sent letters to large home builders, including PulteGroup, seeking information about their pay practices.
The DOL is trying to determine whether home builders like PulteGroup committed minimum wage violations and illegally denied overtime pay to their employees. The DOL is also investigating allegations that many home builders misclassify employees as independent contractors to circumvent federal wage laws. Independent contractors aren’t covered by minimum wage and overtime laws, or unemployment and workers’ compensation insurance. The DOL has been joined in its investigation by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The IRS is interested in PulteGroup’s wage practices because employers don’t withhold income taxes or pay Social Security or Medicare taxes for employees classified as independent contractors.
PulteGroup, Inc. (NYSE: PHM), based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., claims to be America’s largest home building company by revenue with operations in about 60 markets. PulteGroup builds homes under the brand names Centex, Pulte Homes, and Del Webb. The Company also provides mortgage financing, title insurance, and other services to home buyers.
